VictoriaCars will increase their fleet of hire cars in Alicante Airport and Murcia with a batch of electronically powered vehicles, thus uniting with "Ecological Hire Car" movement.
Text: The hire car company VictoriaCars has joined the "Ecological Hire Car" movement, establishing the necessary paper work needed for the future incorporation of a batch of available electronically powered hire cars in Alicante Airport and Murcia, once the infrastructure for said vehicles is fully available in these cities.
Luis Garrote, manager of the Reservations Department for VictoriaCars, states, "At present the necessary infrastructure needed to start an electric hire car service is not available, mainly due to the fact that at the moment there is no existing range or model of electronic cars on the market that could assure us a secure fleet of vehicles of these characteristics at a reasonable cost."
"However, in the long term, we believe it will be a secure investment. We believe the market will soon evolve as culturally the electric car is introduced to our lives. In addition, having hire cars with these characteristics will give us a differential element over our competitors."
"Over time, we believe that as technology progresses, electric vehicles will eventually replace unleaded vehicles, as long as the government invests in them as they are doing for time being."
Luis Garrote continues to say that, "Either way, what does appear to be clear is that the larger cities will be the first to have the battery chargers at their disposition for the electric cars batteries, which is one of the most conflicting points in relation to this new technology. It is for this reason that when we do start to include electric cars in our hire car fleets, it will be introduced hire cars in Murcia and Alicante Airport, assuming they will be the first to have the infrastructure to make it possible."
The Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation has invested 40 million euros to fund the research into new technologies that will aid the integration of electric cars into the society and reduce the possible impact from a massive incorporation of these types of vehicles. This project is know as the Green Project (Proyecto Verde) and will be concluded by 2012
